"Kona Coast", 1968, Richard Boone, Vera Miles and Joan Blondell. About a charter boat captain seeking the murderer of his daughter, this all Hawaii made production was the work of Richard Boone who saw the great potential of movie making in Hawaii, especially the Big Island, with its range of scenery and climate. Boone had turned down the chance to be Steve McGarrett in the "Hawaii 50" series yet was influential in encouraging the production to be made in Hawaii. He is perhaps best remembered as the hired gun in the "Have Gun, Will Travel" TV series. A longtime resident, he loved the Islands and did all he could to encourage movie-making here. Interestingly, Jack Lord was brought in to play McGarrett from his own failed TV western show "Stoney Burke". |
